Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children for academic year 2016-17 Revamped Scholarship for NRIs, Persons of Indian Origin A revamped Scholarship Programme 2016-17:   On Wednesday The Ministry of External affairs has announced a revamped scholarship programme for children of NRIs and Persons of Indian Origin.

The announcement of scholarship program for children is mainly for pursuing under graduate courses in the Indian universities and Institutions. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced this scholarship programme. The guidelines and the application form is available on the official site

Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children 2016-17

According to the new scheme, the scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) has been extended from 40 to 66 countries including 17 ECR (Emigration Check Required) countries. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched this new scheme.

The scholarship numbering is also increased from 100 to 150 with 50 slots.  The increase in slots is designated specially for the children of Indian Workers in ECR countries. From these 50 slots, one-third of slots are reserved for the children of Indian works in ECR countries studying in India. Here we have to note that the income criteria are added to all categories of students.

Diaspora Children Scholarship 2016-17

The eligibility is for children of NRIs and PIOs to pursue under-graduate courses in Indian universities and institutions. The education entrance is for all range of fields except medical related courses under SPDC.

According to the Emigration Act, 1983, Emigration Check Required (ECR) categories of Indian passport holders need to obtain ‘Emigration Clearance’ from the office of protector of emigrants (POE). This Emigration Clearance is for going to 18 countries, which are mostly in Gulf regions.

The released scholarship money is allotted for the payment of Tuition fee, admission fee and including hostel fee with post admission services but not including for food charges.

Diaspora Children Scholarship status 2016-17

According to the notification from Ministry of External affairs (MEA), it said. The scholarship is offered for students for pursuing courses in central universities, institutions accredited “A” Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation council) and other institutions including National Institutes of Technology (NITs), schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs).

Before filling the application form, click on “Guidelines and Application form 2016-17” to know the rules and about the scholarship scheme.

Scholarship Programme 2016-17

  • After reading the guidelines, come back to the Ministry Of External Affair website home for application.
  • Here we will find two options, one for First time user registration and another for registered user login button.
  • Candidates have to select the appropriate button.
  • Fill the application form by providing the right information and attach the required documents.
  • Affix latest photo with signature.
  • Now download the form and take a print copy of the application.
  • Keep this hard copy, which is needed for future use.
